Nostalgic Isnt It?

Having gone through my first year, I feel I must share with you my experience thus far during my course of study pursuing my career choice in Architectural Studies. One year down...three to go to successfully grasp my tiny hands around that tubular container containing the passport to a better life in the world of work and comfortable living...the permission to provide for a family and hassle free responsibilities of those annoying bills!

But my interest of posting this blog piece was brought upon by an intriguing tweet post which was entitled "What options are needed if you wanted to be an architect?"

So I felt the need to help a curious mind as I have gone through the ...troublesome process of achieving the first step on my frustrating road to becoming an Architect. Of course I wanted to lead this person on by saying the nicer things of what is required but also wishing this person the strength of pulling through this crazy life of an aspiring Architect.
According to my comment on that site I laid out all there is needed to capture the eyes and mind of the prospective lecturers who are looking forward to the next Frank Gehry or Tadao Ando because as I have thought it was all about just my excellent skills in drawing a perfect line on paper or my straight A's in Technical Drawing. If you thought it was all that ...then wake up my fellow reader you are in for a helluva surprise...

IT AINT ABOUT THAT

So far in my first year as it comes to a close, currently working on my final project where I should be camping out in design studio where I'd rather be brushing up on idle graphic designs or renewing my hobbies in arts & crafts, there's absolutely no time for that as I thought I would've.
Everything is mostly about interpretation of spatial relationship and scale vs function ...blah blah blah « there's a song by Ke$ha that caught my interest which fits perfectly while listening to my lecturers talk all day long about why we need to know these things, when I just want to get to what I know already and design some cool buildings - apparently I haven't seen cool yet. *sigh*

My point is ...if you aint into art, or any form of creativity or just plainly cannot visualize in 3D while someone talks you through a structure room by room, well....let's just say this career will not work out for you.

No offense I'm just saying you'll be frustrated by the first project they assign to you and you'll be out before you recognize that I said "I Told You So"

For those who are unable to view my comment it reads as follow:

I only know of the requirements here where I'm currently studying (JA. W.I.) but the best advice is tell you that you'll get far if you're well grounded in the world of art & thereof...most times knowing a little more of technical drawing definitely assists you when it comes down to certain projects but the whole idea of being an Architect is to have a very creative and artistic mind as you...the architect most times is like a poet or an artist moreover about what it is you want to put out there that not only serves a purpose and functions as the structure should but having the unique stamp on how that structure stands out better than the one standing next to it.

So in a nut shell...art, technical drawing, craft (photography, sculpture/ model making etc.) and a drive to conquer the many sleepless nights and frustrations during your course of study!!!!!!

Good luck landing your career in this glorious field :)
